‘Oro’ worshippers invade Mosque in Ile-Ife, attack Imam, congregation

Crisis brewed yesterday in Ilare, a community in Ile-Ife, Osun State when some Oro adherents invaded Idi Omo Mosque, brutalized the Imam and descended heavily on the congregation with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons during afternoon prayer.

It was learnt that the fracas began during Asri Prayer, at Ìdí Ọmọh Ilare Mosque. The traditional worshipers said to have been infuriated seeing Muslim faithfuls observing their prayers while their traditional rite was ongoing.

According to an eyewitness who spoke to ODUDUWA NEWS under the condition of anonymity said, “there was a pandemonium at Idi Omoh Mosque, Ilare, Ile Ife, Osun State yesterday as scores of Oro worshipers mobilized themselves descended on the Imam of the Mosque and other Muslims during their evening prayer with different cutlasses and charms.

“They attacked the Muslim faithfuls in the Mosque and destroy properties. The incident occurred during their traditional ritual called ‘ORO’.

“The Muslim faithfuls who were injured are presently receiving treatment at the OAUTHC”.
