The Alliance For Oke-Ogun Development AOD has called on Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde to take a drastic step against the resurgence of banditry and killings in Oke-Ogun.
This was contained in a statement signed and sent today to ODUDUWA NEWS by the Head of Planing and Strategies, Comr Ismail Alani as read in part:
“Time has riped to cry out and our voice be heard by all concerned authorities in Oke-Ogun, Oyo State and Nigeria.
“It is a known fact that Gov Makinde had invested on the security of people in Oyo State aftermath of Igangan incident last year. But to our surprise Oke-Ogun is yet to get her fair share of those benefits from Gov Makinde’s investment in the state.
“This is because, the way things are going now in Oke-Ogun calls for worries as a responsible youth group and tomorrow leaders of the region. It appears to us that those killer herdsmen who invaded Ibarapa last year have shifted their bestalities to Oke-Ogun region.
“This could be seen with an alam that was raised by WSN Oyo State Commander, Gen Togun few weeks ago. It’s sad that after the alam were raised by him and some of our members, leaders and government from Oke-Ogun and Oyo state government took no action in preparedness to forestall possible violence attack by Fulani marauders. Regrettably, before our very eyes, last weekend a violence attack was launched in Alaga Oke-Ogun, Atisbo local government area.
“The attack left scores in critical condition, our investigation revealed that many of the victims of this attack are between life and death.
“Similarly, on Thursday 23rd of June 2022 another attack was reported in Saki East local government area, investigation is still on to accertain the degree of the attack as at time of issue this communiqué.
“We hereby as usual call on the government of oyo state led by Gov Seyi Makinde, his Deputy Engr Rauf Remi Olaniyan, chairpersons and all other political office holders including political appointees from Oke- Ogun to show more concern to the plight of ordinary people living in the region.
“We also called on our traditional rulers to swing into action with sole aim of finding a lasting solutions to the mirage of security challenges confronting our region.
“It’s our hope that government, traditional rules, religious leaders, social groups, media and other stakeholders will work in unison to confront the scourge before it consume all of us because nobody and nowhere is save in oke-ogun region today.
“We are entitled to better live irrespective of where we came from”.
