ODUDUWA NEWS has gathered that a protest was held today by the legislative members of the Ibarapa North Local Government Area of Oyo State at the local government headquarters in Ayete.
The protesting Ibarapa North Local Governmnent Councillors were elected on May 22, 2021 and took their oath of office on May 27, 2021.
The legislative arm comprising 10 Councillors from the three towns that made up the local government council, Ayete, Tapa and Igangan were seen early hours of Tuesday, March, 29, 2022 holding placards with different inscriptions: “This Is The 10th Month In Government, No Office, No Legislative Chamber.” “No More Marginalization.” “No More Cheating.” “We Are Tired of Sitting Under The Tree.” “We Need A Conducive Environment To Discharge our Duties.” “306 Days In Office Without Office.” “We Are Here To Represent Our People, Allow Us To Serve Them.”
Speaking with newsmen on Tuesday, the Councillors who were in group told PC that Akorede led administration in Ibarapa North Local Governmnent had failed to give opportunity to the elected Councilors of the local government to operate and serve the people.
The Councilors also bemoaned marginalization and lack of respect from the members of the executive arm.
According to the Councilors, Hon. Oladimeji Jamiu who is the local government’s Supervisor for Youth and Sports allegedly slapped the Speaker of the House, Hon. Oladeni Monsuru Badmus “just because the Speaker was trying to settle dispute between the Supervisor and a member of hospital management board at the state level.
Asked if the Supervisor had the backing of the local government chairman to have acted in such manner, the Councilors said they had no evidence of such but premised their claim on the fact that “Akorede led governmnent has no respect for anyone.”
“It is only Ibarapa North Local Governmnent that doesn’t have office for Councilors, we were elected to serve our people, without an office, how are we going to discharge our constitutional responsibilities?.”
“We are here to serve the people, there is no way to prepare motions or bills, it is the job of Councilors to listen to what our people need while we forward their request for executive implementation, but this is what we have not been doing since we were elected.”
“Only Akorede and his group are governing the local government, we are tired, we are being cheated and marginalized, our career is in danger.”
“We reported everything to Dr. Anthony Adebayo Adepoju but nothing was done.”
“We really want to serve our people, this is not how governmnent is run,” the Councilors told PC.
