ODUDUWA NEWS has gathered that a collision involving two automobiles on Friday resulted in no fewer than 20 people burnt beyond recognition along Lanlate/Igboora/Maya road, Ibarapa East Local Government area of Oyo State.
The two automobiles, which were allegedly moving in opposing directions, collided and immediately caught fire. According to eyewitness accounts, just two passengers were able to escape the collision, while the other passengers and the cars were completely burnt.
The accident was described as pitiful and unfortunate by Hon. Gbenga Obalowo, Chairman of the Ibarapa East Local Government, who led a rescue team to the scene.
He stated that the bodies of those who were burned have been placed in a morgue, while the two survivors are currently receiving medical care at Awojobi Hospital in Eruwa.
It was a horrific scene because the accident was fatal. Over twenty totally burned human bodies were visible to us. When they collided head-on, a commercial bus and a Sienna that was also carrying passengers caught fire and were destroyed beyond repair”, said Chairman.
Hon. Obalowo urged drivers, especially commercial drivers, to exercise greater caution behind the wheel.
“Our drivers must refrain from driving too fast so as to prevent situation like this”.
