Journalism as the fourth estate of Government is responsible for reporting of government activities to the people, and also saddled with the task of putting all political office holders on toes towards the fulfilment of their electoral promises, while keeping people informed at the same time.
Our journey in the last one year has been of objectivity, reporting it the way it is, investigating the truth, keeping people updated, and allowing our audience to be the judge. Objectivity in journalism aims at helping the audience make up their own minds about a story, providing the facts alone and then letting audience interpret the facts on their own. To maintain objectivity in journalism, journalists should present the facts whether or not they like or agree with those facts. Objective reporting is meant to portray issues and events in a neutral and unbiased manner, regardless of the writer’s opinion or personal beliefs.
In lieu of the above, @OduduwaNews, has put together a public discourse on Journalism by 4pm, next week Friday with the Theme: “Roles of Media Practitioners in Ensuring Fairness, Truth and Justice in News Coverage and Reporting”. Seasoned journalists and Media Practitioners have been invited from various media outlets to discuss the theme of the symposium.
Our choice for this year’s theme is as a result of the important role of the Media in our society, and it is only when our media outlets are just, fair and truthful in their news coverage and reporting that we can have a better society.
Part of the programmes highlighted for the commemoration of the anniversary is sponsoring of some randomly selected readers to watch a latest traditional movie at Cinema as sponsored by ODUDUWA NEWS in partnership with Baby Blue Angels Foundation and one of our esteemed readers, Engr.
